PNG suits screenshots and graphics with transparency. JPG has no transparency, but for photographic images it is usually a much smaller file, and it is what many forms and email clients expect.

  • White is the default background for transparent PNG areas in the JPG output.
  • Partly transparent edges are blended with the chosen background before JPEG encoding.
  • JPG output uses the Quality setting, which defaults to 80%; the PNG is re-encoded at that setting.
