Explain a PDF in plain English
For the letter you have read three times and still do not follow: upload the PDF and get what it says in everyday words.
- Needs a free account
- Text is processed by Anthropic (Claude)
- Encrypted in transit
What you get
- A plain-language explanation that stays with what the text actually says.
- Jargon defined where it appears, so you do not need a second tab open.
- Anything that asks something of you called out: obligations, deadlines, costs and risks.
- The explanation in the language of the document.
Works best with
- Insurance policies, tenancy and employment terms, benefit and tax letters, product terms and research papers.
- For a long document, explain the section you need. Upload the PDF, then delete what you do not need from the box before you run it.
- Text-based PDFs. A scanned letter has no text layer here; the AI Summarizer can read scans with OCR.
- It explains; it does not advise. For decisions with legal, medical or financial consequences, ask a qualified professional.
How it works
Upload the PDF to the explainer
Sign in, choose Upload a file and pick the PDF. Its text lands in the box.
Keep only the part you need
Delete the pages you already understand, and any account or ID numbers you do not need explained.
Select Explain this
Read the explanation, with the obligations, deadlines and costs called out.
Example
Illustrative example: one clause from a tenancy agreement, explained.
Input
The Tenant shall give not less than one month's notice in writing, such notice to expire on the last day of a rental period.
Output
- In plain English: to leave, you must tell the landlord in writing at least a month ahead.
- Deadline: your notice has to end on the last day of a rent period, not partway through one.
Frequently asked questions
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a general explanation of the text you provide, to help you understand it. For a decision with legal, medical or financial consequences, speak to a qualified professional.
Can I ask follow-up questions?
Not in a chat. Each run explains the text you give it. To dig into one clause, paste just that clause and run it again.
Can it explain a letter written in another language?
It explains in the language of the document, so a German letter is explained in German. To read it in English, translate it first with the AI Translator, then explain the translation.
Should I remove personal details first?
You can, and it is a good habit. The text is sent, encrypted, to Anthropic (Claude) to write the explanation and is not stored by us; account numbers or ID numbers rarely need explaining, so delete them from the box before you run it.
