Translate a PDF

Upload a PDF or Word file and get its text in another language, with the paragraphs, lists and numbers where they were.

  • Needs a free account
  • Text is processed by Anthropic (Claude)
  • Encrypted in transit

What you get

  • A translation into one of 40 languages, among them Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, Spanish and Ukrainian.
  • Tone, line breaks, names and numbers kept as they are.
  • Download as Word (.docx), Markdown or plain text, or copy it. The PDF download suits Latin-script languages; for Arabic, Chinese and similar scripts, use Word.
  • You choose only the language to translate into; the source language is read from the text.
  • Turn on Side by side to read each paragraph of the original next to its translation. When the paragraph counts differ, the two are shown as separate columns instead.

Works best with

  • PDFs with selectable text, and Word, OpenDocument or RTF files.
  • You get the translated text, not a copy of the original layout: images, columns and page design are not rebuilt.
  • Each run has a size limit. For a long document, translate it section by section.
  • For anything official, have a fluent reader check the translation, and compare its figures and dates with the original before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

Will the translated file look like my PDF?
No. The translator works on the text, so you get the translated words with their paragraphs and lists, not the original page design. Download it as Word and paste it into your own template if the layout matters.
Which languages can I translate into?
Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi (Persian), Filipino (Tagalog), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
Can it translate a scanned PDF?
Not directly; a scan has no text layer to read. For photographed pages, use Image to Text first, then paste the recognized text into the translator.
Is the document kept?
No. The PDF is read in your browser; its text is sent, encrypted, to Anthropic (Claude) for the translation and is not stored by us.
